November 2010 Update:

Hi All, Well we just moved into the lab last week and they scheduled a course in it already this week (even had outside people including ministry of agriculture). Obviously mostly lectures and demonstrations as we have gaps in lab equipment and electrical transformer issues (I personally bought two transformers to loan them for the course) but students are so desperate for any basic training that they were so enthusiastic thought it was great. It continues tomorrow and our seminar course is at noon. At least I finally met a couple of new faculty. It gives me hope that we can really do something substantial with a little funding.

Best, Bonnie

The African Biomedical Center has been developed to fill in an important gap in Kenya health care. It has the advantage of a team of principals that are both internationally trained and respected in both clinical medicine and basic science relating to the major issues of infectious disease transmission and reproductive health. These investigators are not only also experienced in teaching and training but have reputations of integrity and commitment. They are known for their international collaboration. Along with the donation of major clinical and laboratory equipment to set up a major laboratory, the commitment of the M. P. Shah hospital should ensure the success of this center and the programs implemented should provide a sustainable program which could soon have a major impact on the infrastructure of HIV/AIDS and other STDs in the Kenya.

The Africa Biomedical Center provides important medical care in conjunction with the M.P. Shah Hospital in Nairobi for patience with Aids. Founded by Dr. Bonnie Dunbar, the African Biomedical Center specializes in women's health in Africa, including HIV/Aids and emerging infectious diseases.

WildiZe provides funding for the development of medical labs, medical training, Aids awareness and outreach, and sanitation education. These projects will lead to the building of more rural clinics to treat and prevent Aids and other diseases.
